… walking through the Peace Gardens in Sheffield. The man & his dog were there at 10 am, walking in the drizzle…..
… by 11 am the sky brightened and the sun appeared, between clouds.
Having ventured to the Peace Gardens for some peace ! I was intially wary to see a huge media screen was installed, covering the days event. However, it was perfect. It felt a special place to watch the funeral, and the crowd – of young, old, and all nationalities – was respectful, supportive, and a pleasure to be part of.

La Scala, Millhouses, Sheffield S7
… La Scala has been a popular restaurant for over 20 years, and Millhouses has been an ever-changing neighbourhood shopping place, since my childhood. I can even remember catching a train from Millhouses railway station (long since closed) for a day out at Edale, in the Peak District….

…as a child, I stayed at Thornbridge Hall itself, for a Residential school project. Whilst we resided in a cold out-building, we could explore the Hall itself, and I was fascinated by the highly polished limestone walls, crammed with millions of fossils !
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year, and Thankyou for looking !

… yes, this really happens, from time to time ! … a bold pigeon will wander in, to the cafe, and peck around for crumbs, until a kind person gently ushers it outside again. I do this, when I’m there. Many people don’t like the pigeons that congregate in the City Centre, but I love them. Seeing their characters and how they adapt, to survive, cheers my heart.
Please be kind to birds ! I’m dedicating this painting to The Special Branch, a charity that works tirelessly to help injured birds, in Sheffield, and has recently opened a shop to raise much-needed funds, at 15 Chesterfield Road, Sheffield S8 ORL….
… I often see “Yuki”, and others, tending the fabulous flowers & plants in the Peace Gardens and other areas around the City Centre. These green spaces can be a sanctuary for many people, including me.
The gardens are a real credit to all the dedication and hard work, of Yuki and her team.

… my latest painting… Inspired by my Grandmother who worked in the Sheffield steel industry, during World War II. Years later, she often talked about the “little mesters”. My Grandfather served in the RAF. My Grans street was bombed, 1940, many houses destroyed and killing several of her neighbours. My Mum was 4 at the time, remembers how scary it was, but how everyone pulled together, Sheffield-style…
